Mining Memorial for Seaham

Seaham Town Council is proud to announce that the long awaited mining memorial sculpture is now in place. Councillor Eddie Mason, the Leader of Seaham Town Council officially unveiled the sculpture at 3.45 pm on Sunday, 31st July, 2011 during the Seaham Carnival to the backdrop of the three mines banners. The sculpture is of three miners waiting to go down the pit and each figure represents one of the three mines of Seaham, Dawdon and Vane Tempest. The work is a piece by locally and internationally renowned artist Brian Brown and has been two years in development.

The memorial has been funded by Seaham Town Council, the AAP Neighbourhood budgets of five of the local Durham County Councillors and the North East Area Miners Social Welfare Trust Fund and manufactured by Dyer Engineering Limited of Annfield Plain.
